The works of Michael Berman have been described as intensely powerful and passionately romantic. They are radical in technique imagery and thought, yet align themselves with the "rhythms of our society, the emotions of life and the sublime energies that make up our everyday existence".

His paintings reflect an ongoing drive to express the energy, rhythms, mysteries and contemplation of nature , music, Judaism and life. Michael uses layers of color, texture and combinations of inspired spontaneous gestures and symbolic forms to express a rich world of emotions and expression. As Michael states, "Experimentation is the key ingredient."

The majority of his work derives its inspiration from music and/or energy. "As a result," he says, "I am always pushing my work into new arenas and am continually experimenting with mediums and forms and color combinations." These paintings range from grand scale wall hangings to more intimate work on both canvas and paper.

Michael's visual interest in rythm, tone and imporvisation as well as his deep resonance with the sprit of jazz makes for a fantastic synergy with Owlsong's musicians. Michael has created the artwork for two of Owlsong's releases, 'Trio,' by John Kamman, and Vattel Cherry's 'BassRespänse. Additionally, he is contributing visuals to October's Premier of 'Head Over Heels,' the new dance collaboration between John Kamman and Jane Franklin Dance, and some fantastic images for the marketing materials for the 'Evolutions' concert series in Winter/Spring of 2004.
